Winnie W. Lee MD, one of the early adopters of the robotics platform, has employed robotics in all branches of thoracic surgery with a primary professional focus in thoracic oncology and the development of minimally invasive treatment strategies. She previously served as the Director of the Thoracic Tumor Board at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City and was an Associate Professor at the Hofstra School of Medicine. She trained under Dr. Frank C. Detterbeck at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Dr. Benedict D.T. Daly at Tufts New England Medical Center in Boston.

Dr. Lee was recruited as Chief of Thoracic Surgery to create and develop The Chest Center at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center. In addition to bringing robotic thoracic surgical techniques to our institution, she is also introducing the newest technology in diagnostics using endobronchial ultrasound and electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy to identify and biopsy pulmonary tumors. As part of The Chest Center, she is also developing The Lung Cancer Screening Program with the purpose of detecting early stage lung cancers but also other incidental chest disorders.

She believes in the importance of delivering health care in a friendly, informational, and comforting environment while using cutting-edge technology as tools for both the treatment and education of her patients and their friends and family. She is an advocate and public speaker not only in areas of thoracic surgery, but in preventative health care. She is double board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery.
